Java Detailed Installation instructions

This post aims to cover Detailed installation instruction of Java JDK6u25 in a windows pc.

Java Platform, Standard Edition or Java SE is a widely used platform for programming in the Java language. It is the Java Platform used to deploy portable applications for general use.
In practical terms, Java SE consists of a virtual machine, which must be used to run Java programs, together with a set of libraries (or "packages").

Contents:

Java Installation Instructions

  • Save it to a convenient location in PC.
  • Wait for the download to Complete.
  • Double click on the installer.


Click on Next> button in installer window
Click on Next > button in installer window.



Select Development Tools and click Next >.
Make a note of the path in Install to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_25


Wait for installation to complete
Wait for the installer to Complete.


Finish Installation
Click on finish button.

Environment Variables

Select MY Computer
Select My Computer from your desktop

Right click My Computer, Select Properties
Right Click on "My Computer" icon and select "Properties"

Select Advanced system settings
Select Advanced system settings

Select Advacned Tab and Click on Environment Variables button

JAVA_HOME


In System Variables Section, Click on"New" Button.

Create  a new Variable JAVA_HOME with the path you observed in Java installation section.

PATH

Go to System variables Section, Search for Path variable.
Click on Edit... button after selecting Path variable.

At the End of existing Path variable contents,
Append %JAVA_HOME%\bin;
*** DO NOT DELETE Existing contents in Path variable.


Cross Verification


click start button in My Computer and type "cmd" and press enter.

A command prompt window appears as above.

Type "echo %JAVA_HOME%" and ensure it points to JAVA installation directory.

Type below commands and ensure output is mentioned as in screenshot
"javac -version"
"java -version"
Congratulations!!! You have installed java JDK successfully now in your PC.
